It’s my last few days of work and I’m closing out for the summer. I work with low income parents and families of school aged children. People that just down give a damn about their children. Some days I want to scream at the parents. They tell me they don’t have time to work with their children or spend time with them. I often get this glazed over complacent stare from across my desk. As if feeding the child is enough.
I’ve started to feel my anger rise. A primary example is when I hear them talk about purchasing their children video games, but be unwilling to spend time on their child’s education. Or when they show up in new clothes and I see their children with torn clothing or bookbags. I want to shake them and scream. It’s like they simply do no care. Education is the key to any child’s success. We must feed their souls and minds, not just their insatiable need for superficial stimulation. Children can be come spiritually and mentally malnourished if the are not raised properly. We can’t let the TV, internet or xbox consume our children. Heck, we can’t let the TV, internet or xbox consume us. Children need art, science, math, and spiritual freedom. So do we. Why try to stimulate ourselves by these superficial means? I will post soon on other means of things we can do with our time.
